A GROUP of 16 Indonesians rescued from a leaky vessel in the Timor Sea will be taken to Christmas Island to be assessed by immigration officials, the Federal Government says. The three men, three women and 10 children were picked up by Australian navy ships yesterday after they approached the Jabiru Venture, a converted oil tanker used as a floating production facility for the Jabiru oil field. A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said today that the people would be taken by the navy to Christmas Island, 500km south of Jakarta, where Australia has an immigration processing centre. It was too early to speculate about whether the Indonesians would make an asylum claim, she said, and if so, whether they would be taken to Nauru under the government’s so-called Pacific solution. The Federal Government has spent hundreds of millions of dollars building a new immigration detention centre on Christmas Island, but it has been plagued by delays and is not yet completed.

Number one; you don’t have to deal with the yearly routine of going out and paying some jacked up cost for a tree that’s going to die soon. Number two; you don’t have to deal with clean-up when you have an Artificial Christmas Tree. And number three; you don’t have to dispose of the tree after Christmas is done. Not to mention an Artificial Christmas Tree is less likely to catch on fire. Ah ha, you didn’t think of that one did you?
